AN unforeseen circumstance resulted in blackouts in a Luyang neighbourhood for two consecutive days recently.

A Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) spokeswoman said the supply was disrupted, in both instances, because of a problem with the firm’s high voltage system there.

“Our staff repaired the damaged installation servicing the area and managed to restore the supply on the same on these two occasions,” she said on October 17.

“They have been keeping an eye on the system here and, so far, there have been no more disruptions.”

STEFF, who lives in Luyang Phase 3, these outages had been happening for some time and usually occurred late at night or in the wee hours.

“They happen so frequently, that I fear they might damage the electrical appliances in my home,” she said.

“The stuffy condition indoors make it difficult for us to get a good night’s rest.”

She said, during the disruptions at the beginning of September, the lack of ventilation caused her four-year-old to wake up.

“I was forced to fan her to sleep before I could get some rest myself.”

Steff said she shared her frustrations with a neighbour who works as a policeman.

“He told me that several police stations, including those in Putatan, Kepayan, Luyang and Inanam, were also hit with blackouts on these same days.”

She said she contacted SESB’s 15454 – Customer Management Centre about the disruptions in her area.

“The staff were unable to tell me when my supply was likely to be restored.

“Nevertheless, they assured me that their technicians were in the process of attending to my problem.”

Steff hoped the company would take steps to ensure that their service did not breakdown as often as it had off late.

The consumer provided Hotline with the times and dates of these outages. This information has been forwarded to SESB.
