Kota Kinabalu: Youth and Sports Minister Phoong Jin Zhe is hoping that table tennis will be further developed in the State with the joint efforts from both Sabah Tennis Association and the Youth and Sports Ministry.

He was speaking at the closing of the Malaysia Sabah Table Tennis Masters 2019 organised by Kota Kinabalu Table Tennis Association (KKTTA) at the Borneo Sports Arena, Kolombong here on Sunday.

“I am really happy and thankful to Kota Kinabalu Table Tennis Association for hosting the event and also inviting me for the closing ceremony.

“As the Sports Minister, I really want to know each of the sports under the Ministry and I am glad to be here to understand more about Sabah ping pong.

“I just hope we can work hand in hand together to continuously develop the sport further as we can see there are a lot of talents from the State including some of the para athletes who have done very well in the sport for the State and country,” he said.

He congratulated Kota Kinabalu Table Tennis Association in organising the championship which has attracted  the participation of 31 teams, with 300 players and officials.

Meanwhile, with the final held later than the scheduled time, the Minister only presented prizes to some of the losing semi-finalists as he had to leave the venue for other appointments.
