Minister confident Visit Tenom Year will draw good response
TENOM: State Infrastructure Development Minister Datuk Peter Anthony is confident that the “Visit Tenom Year 2020” programme, in conjunction with the Visit Malaysia Year, will receive a good response from international tourists provided the event reaches its promotional targets.

He said although it is a preliminary step, it is hoped that more than 20 tourist destinations located in Tenom and Kemabong will successfully feature the districts as attractive tourist destinations.

Peter, who is also Melalap Assemblyman, said his efforts do not only encompass tourism but also other aspects, mainly related to the quality of living, economy as well as the forward movement of the people in Tenom.

This was reflected in his personal donation to paint the shop buildings and pave the roads in Tenom town.

In this regard, Peter also thanked the media, government and private agencies, especially the Chairman of the Tenom Association of Tourism Entrepreneurs, Sharon Voo, and deputy Gerald Baxter, as well cultural groups and nature lovers who play their role in helping to promote the programme at the international level.

“The organising committee should be congratulated for putting together a plan to beautify the district in an effort to attract tourists to come here, and we hope their visits will continue to increase.

“Congratulations and thank you also to the Industry and Trade SUT, who is also former Tenom District Officer Datuk Madiyem Layapan, who sincerely brought a delegation from Matunggong, comprising 120 people of the Rungus tribe, to help promote the Visit Tenom 2020,” he said.

Infrastructure Development Ministry Political Secretary Jack Jatil Junggok read his speech during the launch of the Visit Tenom 2020 at Dansan Seri Antanom, here, Friday.

Earlier, Kemabong Assemblyman Jamawi Jaafar said by agreement of the Tenom District Officer, an additional activity was included to be a filler in the tourism programme, where the sports teams of four-wheel-drives from 11 countries will perform on Oct 30.

Jamawi added that the presence of the group is rare and their stunt performances could thrill spectators.

They will roam for 8 days and camp in Kemabong for two days. Likewise, this December 2019, one of the international Motorcross championship will be held in Kemabong.
