“The younger generation also must strive to preserve it. They need to maintain the uniqueness of the culture that has been at the core of racial harmony ever since.
“If it is lost we will be considered as those who have discard our cultural heritage.”
He was speaking at the opening of Kota Belud Festival in conjunction with the Tamu Besar Kota Belud here recently.
Japlin said the younger generation must be reminded to keep abreast of their culture so that traditional cultural practice can continue for future generations.

He said that this effort is important for the Bumiputera to continue to protect and preserve their culture from being extinct. Inheriting traditions of our past does not mean that we are still living in the old world, he said.
“We should be proud of the culture of our people who can unite us in developing a prosperous Malaysia,” he said.

“Like the bertitik rite, the runsai rite is a unifying factor of the Bajau Samah in Kota Belud. The younger generation should learn and maintain this culture as it could attract foreign tourists to come and see the uniqueness of the Bajau Samah tribe,” he said.
Also present were Kota Belud district National Unity Department Officer, Mohd Basi Jami and the contestants.
