Turning Papar into a satellite town by 2024
PAPAR: The district has huge potential to be a “satellite town” by 2024 following the launch of the Special Development Strategic Plan (Blueprint) for Papar (2019-2024), here, Tuesday.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Jaujan Sambakong said Papar is ready to be called such in line with the vision of the blueprint to make Papar a hub for education and tourism.

He said this could be achieved once its five-year master plan materialised based on nine clusters featuring objectives of sustainability, smart, clean and safe.

“I am optimistic that the Papar’s Panel Think Tank chaired by its chairman Datuk Aidi Moktar who is also the Law and Native Affairs Minister cum Pantai Manis assemblyman will look for ways to ensure the district deserves the designation.

“I am very supportive of the blueprint that is based on environmental elements in line with the Green Initiative of local authorities (PBT). I am also proud that it (blueprint) was created based on discussions by professionals originally from Papar who understand and know the development potential of the district,” he told a press conference after launching the Papar Development Strategic Plan (Blueprint) 2019-2024 at a hotel, Tuesday.

The Blueprint has outlined nine clusters as its base and guidelines to be followed in its development strategic namely Education and Human Capital Cluster, Tourism and Cultural Cluster, Agriculture, Fishery and Livestock Rearing Cluster, Sport and Recreational Cluster, Factories Industry Cluster, Entrepreneurial and Manufacturing Cluster, Commercial and Administration Zone Cluster, Infrastructure, Utility and ICT Cluster, Health, Wellbeing and Welfare Cluster and Young Delegation (D.A.M).

He is fully aware that having a blueprint would mean that the district needs lots of money to realise the blueprint and its aspirations based on the nine clusters.

However, he said they must not solely depend on the State Government or his Ministry for the funds.

Instead, Jaujan said the local authorities can apply and look for funds in other ministries related to the clusters such as the Trade and Industry Ministry or Education and Innovation Ministry, among others, that have funds to what are needed in the blueprint to be implemented.

He said the Think Tank needs to work with the local authorities to set up an investment unit that focus on attracting potential investors into the district’s development here.

“Through this investment unit, there is also a need for marketing and good policies as another approach to lure the investors to come and invest their money here.
