Boat capsize survivor decides to stay silent
LAHAD DATU: No new clues are available as to what happened to six others in a boat that capsized at Merabung waters, last Thursday.Sabah Region Four Marine Police Force (MPF) Commander, ACP Mohamad Pajeri Ali said the SAR operation covering Lahad Datu, Semporna and Philippine border areas are still ongoing.

He said the operation was accompanied by 25 MPF members and officers using five assets to the location.

“So far, we have yet to receive any discover report from the Philippine National Police Maritime Group and Commander of Sabah Air Force which also participated in the SAR,” he added.

Meanwhile, District Police Chief, ACP Nasri Mansor when contacted said the survivor of the capsized boat incident refused to cooperate with the police.

Nasri said efforts to know what happened from the survivor believed to be the boat skipper is in vain as the he chose to remain silent.

He also added that the body found in Mataking waters last Saturday was confirmed to be one of the missing victim from the capsized boat.

Last Thursday, a boat was believed to  have sank off the Merabung waters after a man was rescued by fishermen. The man later claimed that eight person including two children were missing. 

On Friday, the body of a woman was found at Bangingod waters and another body of a man was found at Mataking waters on Saturday.

Following the incident, the man was remanded by police for 14 days to assist in investigation. He was remanded under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63. – Efa Rizan
