Paginatan village committee officials urged to work as team
RANAU: All chairmen, secretary and members of MPKK committees in every villages are encouraged to perform their roles and responsibilities as a team together with other leaders in their respective districts.

Rural Development Minister Datuk Ewon Benedict said the role of an MPKK chairman is actually very challenging given the expectations of the villagers as well as limited development budget.

“So, it is important that MPKK work together as a team, so that they can always find a solution to the development of the village including organising partnerships with the various private and corporate sectors for related programmes,” he said.

Ewon, who is also Kadamaian Assemblyman was speaking when officiating at the MPKK Management and Administration Course for Paginatan Constituency at Perkasa Hotel Kundasang recently.

Meanwhile, he said, the State Cabinet during its meeting last year had agreed that the appointment of the chairman of the MPKK would be carried out through the village-based electoral process once the MPKK’s current term ends in December 2020.

“KPLB Sabah will detail how the process can be implemented including criteria for candidates and voters. To date, the Cabinet’s decision on this matter stands and we will present to the Cabinet next year on the procedure of the MPKK selection. However, we will be guided by the decision of the Cabinet.

“I am confident that the current chairmen of the MPKK will be re-elected by the villagers if they have been carrying out their responsibilities well during their tenure,” he said.

The course in Kundasang is the sixth to be held so far in the state where the next location of such course is in Kudat.

Also present were Paginatan Assemblyman Datuk Abidin Madingkir, District Officer Mohd Yassin Ibrahim, People Development Leader (PPM) Paginatan, Hisyamuddin Harun, PPM Kundasang Siriman Basir and others.
