Tamparuli students to represent Sabah, S'wak in national eco contest

Tuaran: Eight students from SMK Tamparuli, here, were selected to represent Sabah and Sarawak at the “GT Show: Boleh Bah Kalau Kau” (GT Show BBKK) project organised by the national Toyota Eco Youth programme held at Concorde Hotel, Shah Alam in Selangor on Nov 13.It is understood that the students, all 16 year olds and two teacher advisors started the project for ten weeks beginning Sept 2 and ending on Nov 8.

Teacher advisor Ernest Kelly Subin, said the project involved the preparation of waste bin or organic waste collection mixed with yeast before it was processed into organic fertiliser.
He said, it was aimed at addressing the attitude of the residents who dispose of organic waste irregularly and thus causing environmental pollution or odour.
“From the surveys and studies conducted by the participants, the idea was developed to solve the problems facing the people around them.”
“As a result, participants built a hut by providing few barrels that functioned to dispose of organic waste and added yeast and produced two types of compost fertiliers, namely liquid and solid,” he said.

According to him, the group also revealed projects involved in Tamparuli township, Tuaran township, Inanam township, Kota Kinabalu city centre and the Kota Kinabalu International Airport.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

Among the students who will be presenting the project at the national-level competition are Auldrey Charlotte Lajangang, Constantine Claudius Embagos, Chelsea Anne Joseph, Joshua Faustin Manson, Adyna Herman, Lia Maisarah Mohd Solehuddin, Richwell Radin and Eversen Paul.
