Body of man found in Ranau
RANAU: The body of a 21-year-old man who was feared drowned in Sungai Sugut in Kampung Merungin 2, here, Thursday afternoon, was found Saturday morning.

A Sabah Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) operations centre spokesman said the victim, identified as Hazrul Azha Joseph, was found by villagers some 500 metres from where he was reported missing.

He said a search and rescue (SAR) operation was conducted along the river.

“The operation continued for about two to three kilometres from where the victim was last seen and the body was found by villagers at 8.41am.

“The body was handed over to the police for further action and the operation ended at 10:30am,” he said.

The victim was said to have gone to the river with several friends to catch fish but was swept away by strong currents.

The SAR operation was jointly conducted by the district police, Fire and Rescue personnel from Ranau, Kota Marudu and Kota Kinabalu equipped with scuba gear, and assisted by Rela and villagers.
