Collaboration with strategic partners essential
TENOM: Support and cooperation from strategic partners is high appreciated by the State Information Department, said its Director, Norzawiyah Bulka.

She said it would be impossible for the Department to work alone in implementing its mandate and responsibilities as civil servants without help from the Tenom Liaison Parliamentary Office, Melalap State Assembly Office and Kemabong State Assembly Office.

To this, she thanked both Tenom and Kemabong district officers and district office, police, State and Federal department heads, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), media, school principals, Kelab Malaysiaku and individuals who have supported the Department.

“It would certainly be difficult for the Tenom Information Office led by Sahiman Rahman in implementing the programmes if not for your help,” she said when officiating at the department’s appreciation reception for community councils and strategic partners at Cannan Food Court, here recently.

The Department has carried out numerous programmes especially in delivering government policies to the grassroots. Among them was the Kembara Jalur Gemilang and Keceriaan Bulan Kebangsaan competition.

She said the success of the programmes depended on the community involvement and cooperation from government agencies in providing assistance where venue, manpower and facilities are concerned.

Also present was Kemabong Assemblyman Jamawi Jaafar, Keningau Journalist Association President Marutin Ansiung, Tenom District Officer representative Albert Yen and Melalap Assemblyman representative Jeffrey Ahmad.

Meanwhile, Jamawi hoped a bigger allocation would be announced for rural infrastructure development during the tabling of the State Budget 2020 on Nov 15.

“As a Wakil Rakyat for the interior, I hope infrastructures such as roads, water, electricity and housing facilities will be given to the people including a sports centre for the youths,” he said.

“As someone from the younger generation, I hope there will also be allocation to build a multipurpose hall not only for the benefit of the community in the village but for the youths for their sports recreational activities,” he added.

On farmers, breeders and fishermen, he expressed hope special funding will be allocated to help this group especially during the current decline of commodity prices.

“I see a potential in high value crops and there is already an export market for bananas and other fruits. Although the price of fruits might have dropped but there is still a good market for it,” he said.

“Maybe we can diversify our crops and introduce subsidies for pineapple, or we can supply 10 seedlings for Musang King durian to be planted for future side income,” he said.

On another matter, he said, while the establishment of the Education Ministry in Sabah is welcomed, there is still room for improvement especially in terms of providing training for young people as well as creating business opportunities for them.

He said not only training in entrepreneurship be made available but also capital assistance to enable them start business especially for jobless graduates.

He said that records showed that there are about 182 unemployed graduates in Tenom and Kemabong and more than 6,000 unemployed graduates across the State.

He said having such opportunities would provide them the initiative to get things done instead of just depending on the government.

He said this initiative is also important as some of the graduates are burdened by the National Higher Education Fund Corporation.
