20 SME products to be showcased at S’kan event
SANDAKAN: Twenty small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) products around Beluran, Sandakan and Kinabatangan will be unveiled at the launch of the Entrepreneurial Products for Tourism and Ethnic and Contemporary Dressing Competition 2019 to be held at Sabah Hotel on Dec 18.

The programme is organised by the Beluran SME Association (PIKS), under the Sabah Entrepreneurship Council (MPUNS), in collaboration with the State Trade and Industry Ministry and Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry.

PIKS Chairperson Nuralizah Lee Abdullah said PIKS has undertaken the initiative upon realising that tourism products as well as local culture and heritage is a rapidly growing segment in today’s market, where its allocation is also expanding.

“The main objective of the programme is also to promote local tourism products and cultural arts as a catalyst for sustainable tourism,” she said.

She added the programme is important especially for tourists who wish to know more about unique local products.

She said this at a press conference during the event, here, Thursday.

On the event, its main highlight will be the Cultural Competition which is expected to be participated by more than 30 ethnic groups.

On the day itself, TM will also be organising a seminar with SME entrepreneurs, in addition to events with SME Corp. Entrepreneurs and those active in the entrepreneurial field are also invited to attend the TM programme and participation is free. Some 400 participants are estimated to attend the programme.

The highlight of the event is expected to be officiated by State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister, Datuk Christina Liew.

Nuralizah said the event is in line with Visit Malaysia 2020.

“We also want to introduce cultural fashion from various races and ethnicities to the people of Sabah as well as foreign tourists in particular,” she added.

In addition, the event also promotes ethnic cultural fashion through the publication of pamphlets containing information on local ethnic fashion.

She added the event would give rise to awareness for the next generation regarding entrepreneurship in diverse cultures as well as highlighting ethnic arts and culture in Sabah, so that it does not easily fade.

Nuralizah said a Sabahan entrepreneurial marketing portal, sabahBiz.com, will also be introduced.

Selected entrepreneurial products such as Borneo Street KL (BSKL), Borneo Street Kola Kinabalu (BSKK) will be promoted nationally through various media channels, especially on sabahBiz.com

“The selected products will also be submitted to the UMS Research and Innovation Center through the Grassroots Innovation Programme, to add value to the product,” she added.
