Duo fined for littering in KK

KOTA KINABALU: Two persons were fined RM3,000 or a month’s jail each for polluting their areas, respectively.

The duo pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus to the charge against them.

They were found dumping garbage in their surroundings which come under the jurisdiction of City Hall at Bandaran Berjaya, here, recently.

The offence, under By-Law 6 of the Kota Kinabalu City Hall Anti-Litterbug Bylaw Offence 2005, carries a fine of up to RM10,000, and a fine of RM500 per day if the person continues to commit the offence.

The court heard they were found polluting their areas following inspection by City Hall personnel.

Meanwhile, in another court, two men were jailed five years and ordered given two strokes of the cane each for taking syabu again, respectively.

Shamree Abidin and Mazlan Miyasin pleaded guilty separately before Sessions Court Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim to the charge against them.

They were found taking the drug after their urine were tested positive and they had several previous convictions for committing similar offence.

The court ordered Shamree and Mazlan to serve the jail sentence from the date of their arrests.

After completing their jail sentence, they were ordered placed under police supervision for two years.
