CITY Hall is looking into two Likas rate-payers’ complaints about the noise coming from the construction site near the Jalan Tun Fuad Stephens-Jalan Istiadat junction.

MILTON, who lives in a condominium overlooking the site, said the piling work being carried out there was a source of frustration to many of the unit owners.

He said the noise could be heard from as early as 8am and lasted till 10.30pm daily.

“This has been going on for the past few months,” he said.

“A fortnight ago, the work at the site started as early as 8am on Sunday but went on till 9pm.”

He bemoaned his family’s inability to get a good night’s rest because of the din from the pounding.

“We cannot open the windows at night and have to stuff cloth into the space underneath the doors to minimise the nuisance.

“My young children find it especially difficult to fall asleep due to the noice.”

On top of the noise, he said the dust from the construction site was a nuisance to the condominium residents.

Milton said he had spoken to several City Hall officers about the noise-nuisance, which was especially intolerable on weekends.

“One of these personnel informed me that activities at the construction site are supposed to begin at 8am and end by 7pm from Mondays to Friday.

“They inspected the building site in August and had a word with the contractor who was present at the time.

“The developer is obviously not abiding by these restrictions. I cannot understand how City Hall could allow him/her to get away with this.”

NIKITA, another unit owner, was made to understand that another residential property was coming up near the condominium.

“The building work is being carried out about 20-30 feet away from the existing building where we live,” she said.

“I have voiced my frustrations about the noise and dust nuisance to the management company for the condominium but, so far the situation has yet to improve.”

A spokeswoman for the agency said its staff would be sent to verify these allegations.

“We will have a word with the developer and contractor involved before further action can be taken,” she said. (SS)
