REMEDIAL action was taken by a contractor to provide new covering for the drain beneath a walkway in Tanjung Aru town, recently. It was learnt that the missing or damaged concrete slab for the drain was posing danger to unwary pedestrians.ADVERTISEMENT
A City Hall spokeswoman said the maintenance work was done using a political funding.
“Other parts of the walkway that needed similar attention were also carried out on that day,” she added.
She advised members of the public to make full use of its Hotline section at 088-210011 to lodge such complaint.
“The safety of the children is the most important issue and I am concerned for their safety,” said ZAIN, who noticed the size of the gap could easily fit a child’s foot.

He said he constantly reminded his children to watch their steps for fear that they may injure themselves when they step into the missing slab.

He urged the relevant authority to provide new covering for the drain and check the condition of the rest of the concrete lids in that area.
“I’m sure other similar slabs there are in need to be replaced as well as they are likely to break under a person’s bodyweight,” he said. (OV)
