‘The Red Snapper’ opens in KK
KOTA KINABALU: With 20 years of experience in the restaurant business, Rafflesia Group of Restaurants opened “The Red Snapper” here to provide an alternative choice for local seafood lovers and tourists in the State.

This restaurant at Wei Hing Industrial Centre along Jalan Kilang in Kolombong, here, was opened by Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail on Oct 28.

The restaurant is already popular with its signature dishes like Nyonya Fish Head Curry, Chicken Ponteh, and White Meehoon Topped in Black Bean Fish Head.

Also, Durian Cendol, Durian Slush and Mango Slush, among others.

The group’s Managing Director, Datuk Mohd Afendi Hamdan, said their restaurant is a Nyonya fusion-concept based on seafood.   He said they opened the seafood restaurant because they see a lot of seafood products from Sabah still being exported to the Peninsula as well as other countries like Hong Kong.

“So we think why not we open a seafood restaurant here to cater to seafood lovers and also tourists who come to Sabah. It provides an alternative choice for tourists, which is also part of our small contribution to the State’s tourism,” he said.

According to him, their seafood supply came direct and fresh from Sandakan and apart from selling seafood according to the menu, they also provide fresh supplies for customers to either have it cooked at the restaurant or bring home to cook themselves.

“We buy our supply direct from fishermen at Kampung Sim Sim in Sandakan. So we can get them fresh and at reasonable prices. By doing this we are also helping our local fishermen,” he said, adding they are also looking forward to expand the seafood restaurant to other parts of the city and big towns.-Larry Ralon
