KENINGAU: The batik produced by the Sabah Handicraft Centre (PKS) have been accredited twice with MS ISO 692-9000 since 2015, said Sabah Foundation Director, Datuk Jamalul Kiram Mohd Zakaria.
“Our batik have motifs of Sabah such as mountains, forests and rivers besides motifs of the ethnic groups in Sabah,” he told reporters after closing the Sabah Handicraft Centre Open Day and handing over certificates of completion of the Craft Training Programme (PLK) to trainees here recently.

He said batik production from PKS are different as Sabah has between 33-37 ethnic groups which are used to produce batik designs that are different from those in the peninsula.
Jamalul said PKS will have a digital batik printing machine in January sponsored by the Sabah Federal Office.
He said the PLK provided a 10-month training in the art of bamboo, glass, ribu-ribu, ceramic, batik, wood and sewing.
“I hope trainees who finish their training at PKS will make full use of their skills to generate income.

Meanwhile, PKS Group Manager Zaiton Bakri said 69 trainees completed their PLK programmes and in conjunction with the event, 97 stalls selling handicraft products and food, among others were set up at the entrepreneurs’ bazaar around the PKS building compound.
