Early education must include art and creativity: Japlin
KOTA BELUD: Early childhood education must come together with elements of art and creativity to give birth to a new generation that is not only intellectually smart but creative and capable of critical thinking.

Usukan Assemblyman Datuk Japlin Akim said efforts to nurture children from the early stages of education required the support of parents and creative ideas of teachers to interest children in addition to giving them confidence.

“Kids today are children who are competing with more expertise in the future, if our children today do not have the additional input or skills that make them useful and able to contribute, they will be left behind.

“I feel that children’s involvement in the arts and talent is also one of the useful inputs that they can take advantage of in adulthood,” he said.

He said this while opening the Northern  Preschool Excellence Activity 2019 at the SK Tamau Kota Belud Open Hall on Thursday.

According to Japlin, each of our children has their own talents and parents and teachers need to be skilled and creative in nurturing and honing their young talents from the beginning.

“The talent of our children is inside them, but we as parents need to be more creative in encouraging our children to stand out and show off their artistic talents.

“For example, singing, dancing, drawing, colouring, crossword, solving cubic blocks, creativity layouts and more are these talents if we teach and if we nurture it more  will be a  part of the children themselves , ”he said.

Japlin also called on parents to continue to work with teachers and early childhood education centres to contribute ideas and energy to their children’s activities.

He said the involvement of parents and teachers in early childhood education activities can give children confidence and courage to excel and be active.

“Parents and teachers need to work side by side in efforts to get children through early education because at this stage, it is true that our children are developing and learning and absorbing many things and knowledge around them through observation and hearing.

“I believe that the sincere efforts of parents and teachers can make our children shine. It  will be the cornerstone of the country and the future of the state,” he said.

Japlin also presented prizes to the preschoolers where the storytelling contests was won by SK Gunsurai Kota Belud and the retro dance competition by SK Pandasan Kota Belud.
