KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Hockey Association President Dato’ Sri (Dr) Anil Jeet Singh (pic) is vying for one of the vice president posts at the 66th Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) Annual General Meeting to be held on November 16.
It will be a historic first for a Sabahan to contest for the post and Anil, who won the SHA presidency unopposed last September, received the joint highest nomination together with Datin Mary Sadiah Zainuddin from Sarawak with 14 nominations among the 22 candidates.

Sabah Hockey Association honorary secretary Avtar Singh Bal said they are fully behind their President and are proud that he received one of the most nominations for the post.
“Dato’ Sri Anil will be the first Sabahan to seek office in the national governing body through an election.
“Previously, representatives from Sabah or Sarawak were merely appointed to the post (vice president), but it has since been abolished a few years ago,” he said.
He added that they have high hope their president will be elected to be among the seven vice presidents (five men and two women) of MHC during the AGM.

“We hope he will get selected so that Sabah will be well represented in the national body. It is important to have a voice (in the national body).
“With him in the committee (MHC) it will also assure that we will not be left behind as far as hockey development in Sabah is concerned.”

Meanwhile, incumbent Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal is set to lead the MHC for another term, retaining his presidency unopposed after his challenger, AirAsia Group Bhd Executive Chairman, Datuk Kamarudin Meranun was unable to get the minimum three nominations from the affiliates.
MHC Legal Committee chairman Jadadish Chandra Bipin Chandra had recently announced that Subahan received 13 nominations, while Kamarudin, only received two when the nomination closed last Saturday (November 2).
