Close call for family of 7

TUARAN: A family of seven had a close call when a strong wind caused a 13-metre tree to fall on their house in Kampung Penampang Baru, here, Sunday.
The 8.30am incident damaged the roof and kitchen area. Fortunately, there were no reported injury.

Wong, 39, said some of them were in the living room and some were in the kitchen when they heard the loud noise.
“It was very windy before the tree fell, and we felt our whole house shaken as a result of the tree hitting our house.
“Fortunately, the house wall was still intact and we survived,” he said.
He said they later contacted the Civil Defence Forces (APM) for assistance in removing the trees.

Meanwhile, district APM Officer Paulina Francis said she received a call at 8.50am and deployed a team to the scene.

“Upon arrival, the APM team proceeded to cut and removed the mango tree from the affected compound.

“A similar incident occurred on Saturday night when a tree fell on a car in Kampung Telibong. APM advised the public to be extra cautious in this weather,” she said, adding that the operation ended at 10.30am.
