Fake MyKad: 1,047 arrested
KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 1,047 people have been arrested for their involvement with fake MyKad syndicates, the Dewan Rakyat was told Tuesday.

Deputy Home Affairs Minister Datuk Mohd Azis Jamman (pic) said the number was based on records from the National Registration Department (NRD) from 2013 until Sept 30 this year.

“A total of 2,100 enforcement operations were carried out against the syndicates for possession of fake MyKad or other personal identification documents.

“Of these, 1,047 people were arrested and charged under the National Registration Regulations 1990,” he said.

Che Abdullah had asked for the statistics of MyKad syndicates since 2013.

Azis said the selling of fake MyKad was done by irresponsible individuals for easy profits through illegal ways.

He said those who have queries over the authenticity of their identity card should verify directly with the ministry or NRD.

Meanwhile, Azis said 470 people had been arrested since 2017 to Sept 30 this year for using another person’s MyKad or possessing fake identity cards.

“All of the individuals were charged under Regulation 25 (1) (e) of the National Registration Regulations 1990.”

Azis added that over the same period, those arrested include 323 from the Philippines, Indonesia (106), Malaysia (15), China (9), and Thailand (5).
