‘Brace for emergencies during monsoon season’ call
SANDAKAN: Local authorities must be prepared to face any consequences during this monsoon and storm season.

State Minister of Health and People’s Wellbeing-cum-Tanjung Papat assemblyman, Datuk Frankie Poon, said they included Sandakan Municipal Council (SMC), Public Works Department, Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd, Fire and Rescue Department, Civil Defence Force and other related authorities.

Commenting on the recent incident during heavy rain where a vehicle was hit by a falling tree in front of Jambatan 16, Kampung Sim-Sim, Poon said although the vehicle was severely damaged it was fortunate that no one was injured at the scene.

“Local authorities such as SMC need to do regular drain cleaning, pruning tree branches especially those located near electric posts in order to prevent fallen trees hitting these posts, thus, causing sudden power cuts.

“All of these can prevent any untoward incident and damage to properties such as houses and vehicles,” he said.

He also advised all frontline emergency units to be prepared for any situation.

Moreover, he also hoped the public to give their cooperation and support to authorities such as Fire and Rescue Department and Civil Defence Force, among others, who will be deployed at the scene.

Frankie urged the public to use their smartphone to update themselves with the current weather released by Meteorological Department and obey all rules order by authority during flood and storm.
