Mechanic jailed for robbery

KOTA KINABALU: A 42-year-old mechanic was jailed 16 years and ordered given a stroke of the cane for robbing a man.
Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz handed the sentence to Carlsten Freddie Japat after ruling that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt against Calsten.

Calrsten was found guilty of robbing the 30-year-old man of RM8,000 cash, a handphone, a tablet and a gold necklace at a shop in Kuala Penyu, Beaufort at 2.30am on Oct 17, 2018.
He committed the offence together with an accomplice still at large.
Calsten was convicted under Section 395 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping, on conviction.
Six prosecution and one defence witness was called to testify during trial.

The court ordered Calsten to serve the jail sentence from the date of his conviction which was on Monday.
Carlsten is also currently serving jail sentence for another offence.
