Kota Kinabalu: Foreign players who hope to don Sabah Tambadaus colours next season will have the chance to impress in the friendly match with a Labuan selection at Stadium Labuan this afternoon (Saturday) scheduled at 4.15pm.

According to team manager Henry Saimpon, the match will provide a platform for them to assess the imports who are already here for trial and there will also be an hour-long meet the fans session in the foyer of the Financial Park main stage, starting at 11 am.

“The friendly will give us the chance to see the abilities of the several imports currently on trial with us.

“We have to be cautious especially with the foreign imports as we want the best and only those suited and able to strengthen the team ahead of the challenge in the Super League next season,” he said during the team’s training session at Likas Stadium on Thursday evening.

He said after their recent failure to spot any potential signings in Indonesia, they may travel to Vietnam and South Korea to search for the right players if they are unable to get any from those on trials here.

At the moment four players have arrived and more are expected to come with Swedish striker David Rickard Johannesson and South Korean winger Choi Jeong-han showing up on Wednesday while Bosnian midfielder, Muamer Svraka checked in on Thursday.

Three more are set to come with Baba Mahama and Benjamin Acheampong from Ghana, and Arzouma Ives from  Burkina Faso.

He also said they have been given the green light by Sabah Football Association (Safa) President Datuk Peter Anthony to maximise their five foreign imports quota in the new season.

As for the fate of their current four imports – Park Tae Su, Ahmet Atayev, Rodoljub Paunovic and  Aguinaldo Mendes next season, he said the final decision will be made in the coming days together with the local players where all their contracts will expire at the end of the month.
