SANDAKAN: Residents of Kg Sundang and Kg Bongaya Baru in Batu Sapi here have submitted a petition on electricity supply to the villages to both government and opposition member of parliament in Kuala Lumpur. The submission was represented by the Sabah PAS Muslimat Council Chief, Norsah Bongsu, which was accepted by Kubang Kerian Member of Parliament (MP) Datuk Ibrahim Tuan Man representing the opposition bloc.ADVERTISEMENT
Ibrahim, who is also a PAS Deputy President, was shocked and argued that the electricity charges imposed by private companies on the villagers were unreasonable.
He hoped the problem that had been going on for more than 20 years could be resolved quickly by the new Sabah Government.
They also presented the petition to the government side which was received by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department and Batu Sapi MP, Datuk Liew Vui Keong.
Norsah also conveyed the villagers’ wishes to the Batu Sapi MP to reject a private company in managing electricity at their settlements managed directly by Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) instead.ADVERTISEMENT
She said Liew promised to speak with SESB and Deputy Minister of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change, Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis, to find a solution.
Liew felt the solution to the issue was to install electricity meters through SESB but that it only involved Kg Bongaya Baru as it had been gazetted as a village.
