Four illegal S’kan water connections dismantled

SANDAKAN: The Water Department here disconnected four illegal water connections at Block E and F, MPS Flats, off Jalan Batu Sapi, Saturday.
Its engineer, Ishar Hamka Ismail, said the department along with its appointed contractor had conducted an investigation following information about water theft activities in the area.

“We discovered three illegal connections directly to the department’s MSCL 100mm main pipe and another to the MSCL 150mm main pipe.
“The connections using poly pipes believed by irresponsible individuals were to channel water for residents living at the nearby squatter areas,” he said, adding all four illegal connections were dismantled by the department and Salcon Engineering in an operation from 9.30am to 1.30pm.
Several paraphernalia such as poly pipes and clamp saddles used for the illegal connections were also seized.

The department urged all consumers to obey the rules under the Water Supply Enactment 2003 or face stern action under Section 49(b), which carries a fine of up to RM50,000 or two years’ jail, on conviction.
