SMK Likas, SPTS-PLD Kota Marudu are hockey champions

KOTA KINABALU: SMK Likas and SPTS-PLD Kota Marudu clinched the boys and girls Under-16 titles respectively at the Kota Kinabalu Hockey Association (KKHA) 9-a-side hockey one-day tournament held in Likas on Sunday.
In the boys’ final, SMK Likas cruised to an easy 3-0 win victory over SM All Saints with Syafik Lamata scoring twice and the other goal coming from Mohd Jufridy.

Seven teams took part in the boys’ category and the others were SMK Agama Kota Kinabalu, SMK Tamparuli, SMK Tun Fuad Stephens Kiulu, Merudu Jr and SMK Pulau Gaya.
SPTS-PLD Kota Marudu on the other hand, came top among the four teams taking part with second place going to SMK Tun Fuad Stephens Kiulu followed by SMK Likas and SMK Pulau Gaya on a round robin format.
Meanwhile, MHC-Beaufort clinched the 5-a-side Under-12 title by beating Theater of Tragedy 3-1 in the final.
Joint third place went to Kota Marudu 11 and Kota Marudu 12 while Taubat Team won the Loser Pool title.

KKHA President Dedi Saputra who presented the prizes was pleased with the success of the competitions and hoped to make the two tournaments an annual affair.
“The staging of the two tournaments was to provide a platform for these young players to showcase their talents as well as helping us to promote the sport,” he said.
