Ministry to focus more on e-marketing to promote Sabah: Liew
Kota Kinabalu: THE Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry will focus more on e-marketing to promote Sabah.

Deputy Chief Minister cum Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew said the effort will be done through main and micro websites, e-newsletters and social media.

This is one of the steps taken to benefit from the Visit Malaysia Year 2020 (VMY2020) campaign.

“My Ministry through Sabah Tourism Board (STB) is conducting various marketing activities to promote Sabah in conjunction with VMY2020,” she said during question time, at the State Legislative Assembly sitting, here, Monday.

She was answering a question by Paginatan Assemblyman Datuk Abidin Madingkir.

The ministry, she said, will also forge a better cooperation with international tour agents and airlines to promote available products and services in the State directly to users, especially digital campaign.

“STB will also take part in travel shows to promote Sabah to foreign visitors.

“Among the events to be participated by STB in the first quarter of next year are the Asean Tourism Forum 2020 in Brunei Darussalam, South Asia’s Travel and Tourism Exchange (Satte) 2020 in New Delhi, Matta Fair in Kuala Lumpur and the ITB Berlin in March.”

The State, she said will play host to Pacific Asia Travel Association (Pata) Adventure Travel Conference and Mart 2020 to be held from Feb 12-14, next year.

“The event is the main trade convention in Pacific Asia for the travel tourism industry.

“The conference will attract a substantial number of tourists from oversea, especially tour operators in the Pacific Asia,” she said.

She added the ministry will also intensify familiarisation trips for the media, film production crew and agents to Sabah.

“Such programmes will facilitate agents to create tour packages to tourism spots in Sabah while the media fraternity can produce promotional articles on Sabah.

“This will maximise the exposure for interesting destinations in Sabah internationally.”

Liew is also confident that campaigns like VMY2020 will generate a positive impact to the development of the State’s tourism sector. – Ricardo Unto
