Penampang council notified of sewage leak from drain

The Penampang District Council has been notified about sewage leaking into the nearby roadside drain in Bundusan, near the Anak Mami restaurant.
“I immediately saw the leakage on my way to a nearby food court after parking my car just a few metres away,” said TING, a concerned member of the public, who initially thought it was treated supply seeping out from a broken water pipe outside the restaurant.

He was under the impression that it was water gone wastefully into the drain as it was not murky.
“I’m not sure whether it was before or after the meter but nevertheless, it must be attended to avoid wastage,” he said.
He also stressed the metered consumer must be informed about the matter should the leakage be after the meter to prevent the latter incurring an exorbitant water bill later.
“But if it is not, this kind of situation must not be ignored as well because water is a precious commodity which is highly being sought after by people residing in high-lying areas in certain areas nowadays,” he added.

A Council spokesman, when contacted, assured that its staff at the relevant section would be asked to check on the matter soon as possible.
“Repairs will be carried out if the problem is within our jurisdiction to maintain, such as overflowing waste water from a manhole in that area,” he added.

He, however, said advised would be given to the respective owner to repair the leakage sewerage system.

“We won’t be able to do anything if the leakage is originated from inside the compound of the premises,” he added.
A Water Department spokeswoman said its technician came to inspect the area and found nothing was amiss with their pipeline. (OV)
