Amateur radio event attracts 127
KOTA KINABALU: The 10th Borneo Amateur Radio Festival (BARF) event which was held for the first time in Sabah, from Nov 1 to 3, saw 127 participants, comprising of 36 from Brunei, 30 from Indonesia, nine from Sarawak and 47 from Sabah. Four were from West Malaysia and one from China.

Another nine participants from Kalimantan, drove all the way in a convoy of two vehicles which took them six days to reach Sabah.

The opening ceremony was officiated by the Deputy Director Izan Afzan Salamat on behalf of the Sabah Director of Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

The event was held in BP House, Sembulan here and the Borneo Amateur Radio Club (BARC) was the main coordinator for the event with the assistance of few Ham Radio Clubs in Sabah.

According to a statement, BARF is a biennial event and the host is being rotated amongst the eight Borneo Region members consisting of five Kalimantan (North, South, East, West and Central) Regions, Brunei, Sarawak and Sabah. 

It was a gathering for all Borneo Licensed Ham Radio Enthusiasts and also meant to be a forum to exchange ideas on new developments and sharing knowledge and experiences on all Ham Radio operations and equipment matters.

Among the activities during the day event were buy/sell/swap flea market on Ham Radio Equipment, CW(Morse code) contest and karaoke entertainment by all sporting talented participants. 

The main highlight was the meet and greet session between participants in person, and to foster good relations amongst the Borneo Region as well as within Sabah as most only know each other while communicating in the Air through High Frequency (HF) and/or two metre Radio.
