650 exponents to compete in taekwondo c’ship in KK

KOTA KINABALU: Some 650 exponents will take part in the 3rd MVB Taekwondo Invitation Championship to be held at Palm Square, Centre Point here from November 22-24.
MVB head coach Barry Voon said a total of 96 gold medals are up for grabs in four age groups catering for 9-11, 12-14, 15-17 and 18 above.

“This competition is open for boys and girls. There will be 10 gold medals each available in all the age groups apart from the 18 above, where only eight are available.
“Teams taking part will also include those from Sarawak, University Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and University Technology Mara (UiTM) as well as the local participants,” he said on Tuesday.
He urged the public to come and give their support to the three-day competition and the organiser is hoping it will help to raise more interest in the sport.

Meanwhile, MVB are the defending champions of the competition having won the overall title last year while in the first edition, the title went to Borneo Tiger from Lahad Datu.

Youth and Sports Minister Phoong Jin Zhe is expected to grace the closing ceremony scheduled to start at 3pm on November 24.
