RANAU: The Health Ministry must reconsider the dire need for the district to have a new hospital considering the increasing numbers of patients in the current Ranau Hospital besides the need for better and latest facilities.

Paginatan Assemblyman Datuk Abidin Madingkir (pic) said he had repeatedly voiced the need at the State Assembly but thus far there seems to be no effort from the Ministry of Health and People’s Wellbeing to recommend to the Federal Government on this matter.

“I understand that the State Health Department is still searching the site even though the Ranau District Office has proposed in Kg Dilek but was not accepted by the Department on grounds that it is far from the main road.

“However, the issue of this site has been settled and the Ranau Health Department has agreed to the site,” said Abidin who is also who is also Upko Vice President of Sabah and former City Mayor of Kota Kinabalu.

He said the increasing number of patients in Ranau due to population growth has led to a decline in space at the current Ranau Hospital.

“Patients who cannot be treated at Ranau Hospital have to be sent to Kota Kinabalu. Therefore, I sincerely hope that Ranau’s proposed new hospital has been given serious consideration.

“This project is an urgent need and has received many complaints from the public. I hope this proposal can be developed soon to provide comfort to Ranau district residents,” he said.

Meanwhile he said there are grievance that Dental clinics in Sabah, too, are facing shortage of facilities such as dental chairs and other equipment.

“This certainly makes it difficult for dentists to treat patients with increasing numbers over the years. I really hope the ministry devises a long-term action plan to address this problem,” said Abidin.
