Dr M says mulling Cabinet reshuffle
PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (pic) said he will consider a Cabinet reshuffle, after several critics suggested that under-performing ministers led to Pakatan Harapan’s loss in Tanjung Piai.

He said it could happen before the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) summit next year, but added a reshuffle would not solve all of the government’s problems.

“It may be before the Apec summit but I don’t want too many changes to take place because we need to make the necessary preparations. This is a big meeting involving many countries, including world powers.”

He said the proposal was brought up during the council meeting which discussed the causes for Pakatan Harapan’s heavy loss in the Nov 16 Tanjung Piai by-election.

“The act of reshuffling itself is not the solution. It may be a problem, even. That’s why we need to be careful.

“If we reshuffle, we will need to take new people in and it will take them some time. And in that time, there may be another reshuffle,” he quipped. Mahathir said the current government was struggling to publicise the measures and actions that it has taken, stressing that it was performing much better than widely believed.

He highlighted that the nation’s foreign direct investment was “much bigger” than previous years. Many of the government’s initiatives would take some time before they begin to show results, he added.

He also said the PH administration had successfully reduced corruption, adding that this had generated discontent among some who relied on bribery and corrupt practices in the past.

“Believe me, this government has achieved many more things than you think. It has done more than any government within this short period of one and a half years.”
