Woman charged with dangerous driving causing death

KOTA KINABALU: A 52-year-old woman was charged at the Magistrate’s Court here with dangerous driving which caused the death of a motorcyclist.
Tan Pau Pin @ Chin Pan Pin pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Afiq Agoes to driving a car in a dangerous manner and causing the death of one Hafizuddin Abdul Harun at 4.10am on April 11 this year at Jalan Penampang in front of the 7-Eleven in Lido.

Afiq set Dec 12 for pre-trial case management and released Tan on a bail of RM2,000 in two sureties.
Tan was charged under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act which carries a jail term of between two years and 10 years and a fine of between RM5,000 and RM20,000 if convicted. Traffic prosecuting officer Inspector Mohammad Khairul Nizam Mokhtar prosecuted.
In another case, nine people were penalised for committing drug-related offences. They were brought before Magistrates Jessica Ombou Kakayun and Lovely Natasha Charles.
Six of them Ayub Florsatim, Melsad Ajari, Md Badrol Azhar, Waynejohn Sylvester, Gejalie Golinduk, Salvacio Alindajao pleaded guilty to taking syabu here between Sept 3 and Oct 9. Ayub was jailed eight months while the rest were handed six months’ jail.

Taking drugs under Section 15(1) of the of the Dangerous Drugs Act provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to two years jail on conviction.
Freddie Majit, Saiguan Jamil and Lawrence Junior admitted to having drugs weighing between 0.05gm and 2gm between Sept 5 and Sep 29.

Saiguan was jailed 36 months, Freddie was fined RM2,000 or eight months’ jail, while Lawrence was handed 12 months’ jail.
