RM46 million allocated for general aid and orphans

Kota Kinabalu: THE State Government allocated a total of RM46 million to the Health and People’s Wellbeing Ministry for general aid and to assist orphans this year.
Its Assistant Minister, Norazlinah Arif said from that amount, RM3,824,225 had been spent on aid as of September this year.

“For this, 19,066 individuals receive the general assistance aid while 2,360 orphans also received aid.”
She said the ministry has also received RM144,857,580 from the Federal Government for six other types of aid - Elderly Assistance (BOT), Disability Aid (BTB), Disability Worker Allowance (EPC), Child Assistance (BKK), Child Support (BAP) and Patient and Disability Assistance (BPT) ).”
She said this in reply to a question from Kawang Assemblyman, Datuk Gulamhaidar Khan Bahadar at the State Legislative Assembly, Wednesday, on the amount allocated by the State Government to the ministry and the number of recipients and whether the allocation will be increased next year.
Norazlinah said the general aid and orphan aid will see an increase in allocation next year based on new rates approved by the Cabinet, starting January 2020.

Meanwhile, responding to a supplementary question from Apas Assemblyman ,Datuk Nizam Titingan on the status of the additional construction work for the Tawau old folks home, Norazlinah said the new buildings were currently 80 per cent completed and is expected to be fully operational by 2020.

To a question on the allocation for parking upgrades at the Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan by Elopura Assemblyman, Chong Ket Kiun, Norazlinah said currently three hospitals were in need of additional parking at the moment - Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Tawau Hospital and Duchess of Kent Hospital.

“Some proposals have been forwarded to the ministry, including partnerships with the private sector but this is still under discussion. However, the minister will announce something on the matter in the near future.”
