Mobile library service for Kudat, Papar,  Keningau
Kota Kinabalu: In order to preserve the culture of reading among the people, especially in rural areas, the State Library next year will purchase two Mobile Library vans that will serve Kudat and two Desa Net vans that will provide the service in Keningau and Papar.

In addition, the Reading Campaign programme will be expanded across the network to reach the target of five million library users by performing at least 650 activities throughout the year.

He said the State Government will enhance the library facilities by implementing new library buildings in Tenom and Kunak districts.

Education and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob said this when winding up his speech on the proposed State Budget.

In addition, the construction of the Kinabatangan Branch Library building will be fully completed and is expected to begin operations in August while Library @ KKIA will begin operations in January next year.

The library at the Sabah State Administrative Center (PPNS) will be ready for renovation work early next year and is expected to start operating in May.

The 6,000 sq ft floor space will be equipped with ICT facilities and books, e-books, e-journals and e-news.

In an effort to enhance the state’s progress towards mutual prosperity, the Ministry is committed to driving education and human capital to be more innovative.

“Encouraging innovation needs to be applied in all walks of life; and we start early at pre-school level if possible,” he said.

To finance innovation-related programmes and activities, the Ministry allocated RM2,443,050 through the allocation of supplies.

This includes Entrepreneurship Development through the development of technopreneurs, rural empowerment innovation program through technology, Community Development Innovation through the e-Community Programme, etc. – Sherell Jeffrey
