Keep abreast with changes, TYT tells UMS graduates

KOTA KINABALU: Graduates, who will take over as the backbone of the country’s development, should keep abreast with current changes and development, said the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah Tun Juhar Mahiruddin.
Juhar, who is Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Chancellor, said they also needed to be positive and have integrity, be courageous and to not lose hope easily when faced with challenges.

“With this strong and vibrant attitude, our graduates will be able to bring greater heights and glory, as well as create a new civilisation, for the country,” he said at the 21st UMS convocation ceremony, here, Saturday.
He said graduates with all the attributes would be able to bring progress to the country. Juhar also urged parents to take on their role as a motivator and encourage their children to continue their education despite obstacles and problems.
He also presented the degree scrolls to graduates during the ceremony.
The event saw 4,159 graduates receiving their Doctor of Philosophy, Master’s Degree, Bachelor’s Degree and Diploma.

Also presented were the Royal Education Awards to Mohd Hardyianto Vai Bahrun from the Engineering Faculty and Yeoh Ying Shim from the Labuan International Finance Faculty.

Meanwhile, the Chancellor’s Gold Medal was awarded to Lim Pei Sing from the Psychology and Education Faculty, while the Vice Chancellor’s Gold Medal was awarded to Wong Jia En from the Food Science and Nutrition Facultry.

For the Alumni Gold Medal, it was given to Yeoh Keng Hzou from the Computer and Informatics Faculty.
