TUARAN: The body of a zip-line maintenance worker who was reported missing since Monday was found Wednesday morning by his colleague involved in the search and rescue.

Ti Ken Ting, 29, was found floating along the river bank by a group of maintenance workers about a kilometre from where he was believed to have fallen into the river after the iron structure across the river collapsed.

“Firefighters expanded the search area as far as six kilometres but strong currents and poor visibility made it difficult to locate the victim,” said Head of the Fire and Rescue Station, here, Abdul Qawie Abdul Gapar.

The deceased was said to have attempted to cross the river to carry out maintenance work on the “flying fox” when the iron structure across the river collapsed, causing the anchor along with the victim to fall into the river.

Tuaran District Police Chief Deputy Supt Mohd Hamizi Halim confirmed the discovery of the body.

“The body was sent to Queen Elizabeth hospital for post mortem and the case has been classified as sudden death (SDR),” he said.
