TAWAU: The District Health Department has not been able to confirm viral posts that a bogus dengue inspector committed theft at a home here.
Tawau Health Officer Dr. G Navindran said the department had referred the matter to the police, who said no reports had been received.

“There is no (police) report...usually the victim will lodge a report. Therefore, we will investigate further by searching for the home to determine whether the incident really happened,” Dr Navindran said.
“We cannot let this thing go away even if it’s a false alarm, in which case, we fear it will be difficult for us to conduct home inspections and to control dengue fever in future.”
The official advised the public to exercise caution by asking to see the inspectors’ authority card before letting them in to inspect their homes under the Destruction of Disease-Bearing Insects Act 1975.
He said if in doubt, contact the Tawau Health Office at 089-775733 or 089-775916.

Tawau Environmental Health Chief Officer Rahman Sampe said the public can also send him a picture of the “inspector” on WhatsApp at 016-4729314 for immediate confirmation.
The posts have been viralled on social media since Tuesday saying a bogus inspector checking for the presence of mosquito larvae in a house at Taman Green had relieved the residents of a wallet, two mobile phones and thousands of ringgit in cash.
