Tawau council prefers cashless at Sunday Market
TAWAU: Municipal Council President Datuk Ir Amrullah Kamal said the selling booths in Sabindo Sunday Market at Habib Sheikh Road, Sabindo might opt for cashless transactions with the implementation of QR code contactless payment method next year.

Amrullah said cashless payment transactions are a world trend nowadays and folks here particularly consumers and merchants must “catch up” with the trend.

He said if the hawkers have installed QR code, the consumers can use various types of e-wallet for payment transactions. It is also relatively a safe and convenient method as it prevent pickpockets or robbery or wallet missing from the person’s keep.

The implementation of QR code payment is crucial to speed up and facilitate real-time transactions. Digital payments are processed real-time by scanning QR codes at the point of sale which links to the customer’s bank account.

Amrullah also disclosed that the relocation of Sunday market from Takada to Sabindo here has received good response from all parties and he hoped the Sabindo Sunday Market will be listed in the Malaysia Book of Records as the Longest Market in the country while adding that the council will also study the setting up of such market in other locations in Tawau.

Meanwhile, he also thanked the council officers and Tawau police in controlling the safety and cleanliness of the Sabindo Sunday Market every Sunday.
