TAWAU: A 20-year-old motorcyclist was killed after being hit by a car at Mile 3, Jalan Apas, here, early Sunday.The Proton Saga driver, 37, who hit another car in an attempt to flee after the 12.16am incident, also sustained injures. ADVERTISEMENT
District Police Chief ACP Peter Umbuas said the driver, who suffered a broken right shoulder, surrendered himself at IPD Tawau about 9am the same day.
He said the motorcyclist was heading to Balung while the driver was heading to Tawau town. “The mishap occurred when the driver suddenly made a U-turn and the motorcyclist couldn’t manage to avoid due to the close distance.
“The collision caused the motorcyclist to be thrown off and landed on the left road shoulder while his motorcycle ended up in the roadside drain,” he added.
Peter said the Proton driver continued driving after the incident before skidding into the opposite direction about 800 metres from the location.ADVERTISEMENT Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

The car driver has been detained to have his statement recorded for further investigation, said Peter, adding the case has been classified under Section 41(1) of the Road Transportation Act 1987.
