RM34,000 allocation to repair rubbish bins in Tawau

TAWAU: Tawau Municipal Council (TMC) has allocated RM34,000 this year to repair damaged rubbish bins as part of the effort to address the issue of irregular garbage disposal in the municipality.

However, TMC Property Manager Lily Medriana Serigar said there was a problem with the limited provision of rubbish bins and the focus had to be given in the rating areas only.

“For non-rating areas, we are constantly working to resolve this issue and ask all Tawau residents to work together to dispose waste in an orderly manner, in line with the ‘Love our Tawau’ campaign.

“Put the garbage in the plastic and dump it in the bin... When the bin is full, do not overflow it, instead you have to be responsible by throwing the rubbish in another empty bin, said Lily when asked to comment on the issue raised by the residents of inadequate rubbish bins during a question-and-answer session in conjunction with the Kick-Dengue programme organised by Tawau Health Office, in collaboration with TMC, at the Community Hall, here, Wednesday.

Meanwhile, she said TMC, in a meeting, had decided that the rating are in the district be expanded, including Tanjung Batu and several other areas that had been identified, which would be announced later.

She said this had to be done because waste management was not free and TMC is paying a huge concession for it.
