Ranau gets new police chief

RANAU: The Ranau District Police Headquarters (IPD) has a new OCPD with incoming chief, DSP Sammy Newton, replacing Police Superintendent Mohd Shahrul bin Datuk Hj Abd Wahab, who was promoted, recently.

The handing over ceremony was held in a formal setting at the Ranau IPD on Monday, witnessed by Sabah Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Datuk Zaini Jass, Kudat Police Chief Supt Mohd Firdaus Francis Abdullah and other officers.

Sammy, who hails from Kg Topokoon Tamparuli, Tuaran, holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree in Management from Universiti Sains Malaysia, has served in the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) since 1999. He was previously in charge of the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division in Labuan.

Mohd Shahrul, on the other hand, was promoted to the post of Homeland Security Officer, Sabah Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department of Sabah Police Contingent (IPK), has served one year and three months as Ranau Police Chief.

Zaini congratulated Mohd Shahrul and Sammy for their new posts and hoped they will carry out their duties and responsibilities entrusted to them despite the increasing challenges of police work today.

“We hope those who hold new positions will be able to do well despite the many challenges ahead. Keep up the good ideas, proactive attitude and earnestness to create excellence in task commitment, high level of discipline, strong ‘Esprit De Corps’ spirit to drive your achievements to the next level,” he said.

Mohd Shahrul called on Ranau Police Department personnel to maintain a progressive, trustworthy and effective working culture to drive the organisation to greater heights through full cooperation and commitment to the new Ranau District Police Chief.

Meanwhile, Sammy pledged to do his best in continuing the outstanding leadership of the previous Ranau Police Chiefs through the cooperation and commitment of all parties, especially the officers and members of the Ranau Police Department.

“This is important to bring about improvement by prioritising the interests of our customers, strengthening our relevance, deepening and fulfilling the expectations and aspirations of Ranau civilians,” he said.

The event also saw the handing over of duty between outgoing Ranau IPD Chairperson of the Police Family Association (Perkep), Noranizam binti Abd Rajik (the wife of Supt Mohd Shahrul), and Suzey AK Micheal (wife of DSP Sammy) as the new Ranau IPD Perkep Chairperson.
