JAKARTA: Malaysia plans to create a more efficient land communications system linking Sabah and Sarawak with the new Indonesian capital planned in East Kalimantan.   Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Kamarudin Jaffar said this will boost the economic potential and create new opportunities for the benefit of both countries.

“Sabah and Sarawak will have planned development and extend routes (land roads), to be more efficient, especially linking the towns with Kalimantan,” he told reporters here after attending the Transport Minister-level Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East Asean Growth Area meeting in Jakarta, Friday.

Last August, Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) announced that Indonesia’s capital will be moved to a new location in East Kalimantan Timur, involving the regencies of Kutai Kertanegara and Penajam Paser Utara.
