Having IS materials: Case for  mention Jan
Kota Kinabalu: The Sessions Court set Jan 14 next year for mention the case of a 19-year-old Indonesian charged with having materials related to the Islamic State (IS) group.

Sessions Court Judge Marlina Ibrahim fixed the date for Mohammad Alif Sukari @ Yoga Fabrianto who changed his plea to not guilty. Mohammad is accused of having the materials on his handphone at 1.15pm on May 26 this year at a house in Kg Keritan Laut, Keningau.

The offence under Section 130JB(1)(a) of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to seven years, or a fine, and liability to forfeiture of any such items, upon conviction.

During proceedings, Deputy Public Prosecutor Kershanathan Pathmanathan informed the court that reports of experts on the case are not ready.

On June 27, Mohammad Alif admitted to the charge but his sentencing was deferred. Appointed counsel Farazwin Haxdy represented Mohammad Alif.

Pending the date, Mohammad Alif was ordered remanded further.

Previously on June 21, Mohammad Alif had admitted to illegal entry and sentenced to four months jail plus a stroke of the cane.

According to reports, 18 arrests under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 were made throughout this year, involving 13 Filipinos, two Indonesians and three Malaysians.
