Four Marudu drownings this year

KOTA MARUDU: The Kota Marudu Fire and Rescue Station recorded four drowning cases in the district since January to November this year.Its Head, Rony Sikawan (pic) said, the four cases happened in Waterwork Simpangan, Kampung Popok Laut, Minitampak, Sungai Bengkoka and Dandun Pusat.

The victims, aged between 16 and 29, have gone out to the river to either fish or for recreational activities.
He reminded the public particularly children to avoid recreational activities or swimming in waterfall areas during rainy season.
“Stay away from swimming in rivers and waterfalls during rainy season to avoid being trapped in the currents.
“Parents or guardians are advised to constantly monitor their children to prevent them from going to risky places especially areas where there is deep water,” he said.

On another note, he said, they have attended to a total of 250 calls including 126 fire cases and 114 rescue cases as of November.
He said fire cases comprise 21 cases involving structures, six involving vehicles and 99 open burning.

For rescue cases, they attended to 44 emergency cases to catch snakes, 25 to dispose of poisonous insects, 18 natural disasters and 13 accidents including one death.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

On their preparation for flood, he said they are ready for any possibility, adding that they have attended several flood simulation trainings in the district.
The preparation includes ensuring equipment such as boats are in good condition, etc.
