Malanjum appointed Kim Teck Cheong Consolidated's Chairman
KOTA KINABALU: Former Chief Justice Tan Sri Richard Malanjum has been appointed Chairman of Kim Teck Cheong Consolidated Berhad (KTC).

Malanjum’s appointment will take effect Dec 10 as Datuk Deleon Quadra @ Kamal Quadra steps down from the post.

“KTC and the Board of Directors express our deep appreciation to Kamal for his invaluable contribution to the company and in ensuring the Group practises utmost professionalism and integrity in its management and operations,” Managing Director Datuk Lau Kok Sing told a press conference Monday.

Kamal was appointed as independent non-executive chairman of the Group on Dec 2, 2014.

Lau said KTC recorded a 46 per cent increase in revenue from 2017 to 2019 and doubled its profit this year compared to the year before.

He believed having Malanjum at the helm would strengthen KTC’s Board of Directors while his invaluable experience would enable the Group to chart significant growth moving forward.

Born on Oct 13, 1952 in Tuaran, Sabah, Malanjum has had a remarkable career as judge for the past 27 years. He joined the judicial service in 1992 as Judicial Commissioner and eventually became a High Court judge. In August 2002, Malanjum was appointed as Court of Appeal judge and promoted to the Federal Court three years later.

His appointment at the age of 52 made him the youngest judge then to sit at the country’s highest court.

Malanjum was also the first Sabah native to be appointed a judge in the High Court, Court of Appeal and subsequently the Federal Court.

He was later appointed as the Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak on July 26, 2006. On July 11, 2018, Malanjum became the first East Malaysian to be appointed as the ninth Chief Justice of Malaysia. He retired on April 12, 2019.

KTC was founded by Datuk Lau Yeong Ching in 1910. Equipped with over 82 years of industry experience, the business has been successfully managed by the Lau family who continue to expand its business presence and branding throughout East Malaysia and Brunei.

Today, KTC is one of the largest Consumer Package Goods (CPG) distributor in East Malaysia with 7,609 sales and distribution points in 78 districts. The Group operates from 14 offices in the markets it serves and has more than 1,000 employees.
