Rusting K. Belud telephone pole needs to be replaced

A KOTA Belud resident has spoken about the need to replace a rusty telephone pole which is currently resting against an electricity pole in Kampung Baru.
“I’ve been noticing this situation for the past two years and I have, in fact, reported this to Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) on several occasions before but I didn’t get any respond from them,” said ALBERT, whose house is fronting the affected pole in question.

He feared that short circuit will occurred and causes damage to his home telephone.
“What if someone in my house gets electrocuted when touching the phone’s receiver?,” he asked.
He said the utility firm concerned should have taken the matter seriously given the fact that their facility has come in contact with high voltage of electricity.
“Our safety is at stake and so as our immediate neighbours,” he added.

A TM spokesman, when contacted on Dec 5, assured that its staff at the technical section would be asked to verify the complaint soon as possible.
“We apologised for the delay to attend to his earlier reports,” he added.

He said it would assess the situation to find out whether there is a need to replace the pole or retain the existing one after a thorough maintenance.
