TUARAN: The route connecting Kiulu and Tamparuli near Bayaon, Kg Rangalau Baru, Kiulu, affected by a landslide, reopened early Wednesday.

However, the road, which opened at 2.30am, was closed again at 9.30am until 2pm for additional work on the temporary detour.

Tuaran District Public Work Department (PWD) Engineer Nelson George said it took about 17 hours of work, from 10am on Tuesday, to complete the alternative road.

“At 9.30am today (Wednesday), we had to close the road for the laying of additional gravel and the public were able to use it again in the afternoon.

“It is not fully completed and we will make sure that it is safe to use the road,” he said.

George said the PWD used two bulldozers to flatten the new road along the affected road and to build a trench for drainage.

“We don’t allow heavy vehicles to use this route. Small cars are however allowed but their drivers have to exercise patience as it is a two-way route,” he added.

On Tuesday, more than 100 vehicles were diverted after a landslide forced the closure of the Kiulu-Tamparuli road near Bayaon, Kampung Rangalau Baru, here.

The authority informed road users to use an alternative route at Logkou Lama-Bungalio Road to connect Kiulu and Tamparuli.

For those from Kiulu who is heading to Kota Kinabalu, it is advisable to use Lawamandau-Telipok Road or Logkou Lama Road-Telipok.
