LABUAN: The Malaysian Department of Quarantine and Inspection Services (Maqis) seized a consignment of frozen red tilapia from China, here, on Tuesday.
Labuan Maqis Director Nazrul Azman Mat Rahim said the container was intercepted at the Labuan Liberty Wharf after it was found carrying 1,500kg of frozen red tilapia worth an estimated RM11,400.

“The consignment was seized as the importer failed to produce the complete import permits upon inspection by our personnel,” he said.
Nazrul said bringing in products without a proper permit is an offence under Section 15(1) of the Quarantine and Inspection Services Act of Malaysia 2011 (Act 728) and those found guilty can be fined not exceeding RM100,000 or jailed for up to six years, or both.
“Any consignment brought into the country that is found to be in violation of the terms and regulations will be seized for further investigation,” he stressed.
