SESB still trying to fix unstable power supply in Lok Kawi village

AFTER almost a month, Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) is still trying to resolve the power irregularities which some consumers in Kg Potuki, Lok Kawi, have been experiencing for some time.
The supply to the households in the neighbourhood has apparently been erratic, with disruptions occurring several times throughout the day and night.

The blackouts last between several hours to 30 minutes each time.
However, it happened so frequently that the residents fear their electrical appliances might be damaged as a result.
This grievance was forwarded to SESB on Nov 18.
A spokeswoman for the company said a preliminary investigation had failed to find anything amiss with the electricity supply to Kg Potuki.

“Our technical team did, however, discover that there was a voltage drop with the power being channelled to another village nearby,” she said on December 9.
“We hope the customer living in Kg Potuki will provide us with more details so that we can resolve the electricity woes here.”

To this end, she said, the consumer would be required to furnish with the times and dates when he/she experienced the irregularities with the supply.
The consumer should contact Hotline to find out whom to contact at SESB.
JULES of Lok Kawi said she first noticed this problem earlier this year and that the outages happened more and more often off late.
“It is almost as if the electricity blinks on and off,” she said, adding that this occasionally made her ceiling lights flicker.
“Sometimes, I feel like I am at a disco. On top of this, the lights have become dim.”
She said some of the electricity switches for these facilities were damaged by the power woes.
“I have had several of the switches replaced by an electrician because the lights remain inoperative even when they are switched on.”
Jules said she and her neighbours had wearied of reporting these goings-on to SESB’s 15454 – Customer Management Centre – as the situation had yet to improve.
“Some of my neighbours have been told that the outages are due to a cable fault on some occasions.
Others were informed that there was a problem with the substation servicing the neighbourhood has been cited for the problem.”
Jules was at a loss to understand why SESB was dragging its feet to resolve these supply woes if the underlying causes had been identified.
